A timeless Greek favourite — tender marinated chicken wrapped in soft pitta bread with creamy tzatziki, crisp vegetables, and a drizzle of olive oil. Perfect for restaurants, takeaways, or catering menus that celebrate true Mediterranean street food.
Ingredients
For the Chicken Gyros:

1kg chicken thighs or breast, thinly sliced

3 tbsp olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp dried oregano
-
1 tsp paprika
-
1 tsp ground cumin
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper

Juice of 1 lemon
For the Tzatziki Sauce:

250g Greek yogurt
-
½ cucumber, grated and drained
-
2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh dill or mint (optional)
To Serve:

4–6 Greek pittas

Sliced tomatoes
-
Sliced red onion
-
Shredded lettuce
-
Extra olive oil for drizzling
Instructions

Marinate the Chicken:
In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Add the chicken and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (preferably overnight for deeper flavour). -
Cook the Chicken:
Heat a grill or pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated chicken until golden and cooked through (about 5–6 minutes per side). -
Make the Tzatziki:
Combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and herbs in a bowl. Mix until smooth and chill until ready to serve. -
Assemble the Gyros:
Warm the pittas, then layer with lettuce, tomato, onion, cooked chicken, and a generous spoon of tzatziki. Drizzle with olive oil and wrap.
Serving Suggestion
Serve warm with fries or a small Greek salad on the side. Great for lunch specials, takeaway wraps, or mezze platters.
